About the Owner

As a teenager, I vividly remember perusing the fabric aisles at Houston stores such as Foley’s, Sakowitz and Southern Fabrics, dreaming of the possibilities of what could be made with the rows and rows of gorgeous bolts of fabric. In those days, I made many of my own clothing items, as well as a few wedding gowns and bridesmaids’ dresses. Sadly, all of those stores are now closed, but my love for fabrics, and the possibilities they offer, has only grown over the years.

After having made window treatments and bedding for my own home and for friends and family for ten years, I opened SK Designs in 1995 as a retail (working with homeowners) window treatment business. Now, after attending (and teaching at) dozens of industry conferences across the U.S., I love all aspects of my business: selecting fabrics, trims and hardware; designing treatments that work beautifully for each client’s home; and fabricating the draperies, shades, pillows, bedding, outdoor cushions and everything fabric in my studio furnished with commercial machines for efficiency and professional results.

I love collaboration and education! The conferences I have attended have led me to new suppliers, techniques, colleagues and friends, and have been a vital part of growing SK Designs. It was an honor to be the Keynote Speaker at the 2019 Custom Workroom Conference in North Carolina, and I have earned Expert Status in the WFCP (Window Fashions Certified Professional) program.

I am the founder, past President and current member of the Houston Custom Drapery Association, which consists of area colleagues in the window treatment business.
